Porter Wagoner (1927-2007)

Rest in peace.

My favorite quote comes from Porter's last trip to NYC this summer:
"The young people I met backstage, some of them were 20 years old. They wanted to get my autograph and tell me they really liked me....If only they knew how that made me feel - like a new breath of fresh air." (www.tennessean.com)

WKCR will likely be memorializing this great performer sometime soon - we'll keep you updated.

Another Pre-emption

Unfortunately, Honky Tonkin will not be broadcast this week. WKCR will be saluting Clifford Brown in an all-day birthday broadcast. We'll be back next week if the good lord's willing and the creeks don't rise...

WKCR Needs You

If you're a fan of WKCR, now's the time to show your support. Please consider making a pledge to keep great non-commercial music alive. At WKCR we are committed to something we call 'The Alternative'. Whether you're a fan of old-time country music or any of our other great alternative programming, please make your appreciation shown in the form of a pledge of support.

And see this NY Times article to find out more about WKCR's fundraising and the concurrent Dizzy Gillespie Festival.

October Jamboree

Due to the ongoing WKCR Fundraiser/Dizzy Gillespie Festival we will have this month's jamboree next Tuesday (October 23rd).
